The Ulundi Municipality as the water services provider at the time, identified the need for additional bulk storage to balance water shortages being experienced at Ulundi in time of drought. The reservoir measured 40 m in diameter and 8.6 in height and comprised propped cantilever type walls and a post tensioned flat slab roof.
The scope included a gabion catchwall revetment to intercept any boulders falling from the hill as well as a small concrete access road and bulk water meter/telemetry facility. Large 600 m diameter steel pipes were required to connect in parallel with the existing 9Ml reservoir.
